The Wolf

Wolves are the subject of many myths & legends. There's something about them that evokes wonder, mystery, & the wildness of nature.

In the Medicine Cards, Wolf is "the teacher." This is likely due to the Canus Major constellation & Sirius, the "Dog Star." Many indigenous cultures, including Ancient Egyptians, believed Sirius was the home of the gods. And so, wolf people became the clan of teachers.

If Wolf is your guide, you are meant to share your wisdom with others. You inherently understand that there is always more to learn, & that the universe is the best teacher. Staying reverent & humble makes you a better leader & teacher. Your inherent knowledge is worth sharing.

Wolves are often pictured howling "at" the moon, but that's probably because A) they're nocturnal & B) howling is a way to communicate with the pack across long distances. So while wolves do howl at night, the moon probably isn't the reason. But it's still totally a vibe.

Wolves are incredibly loyal, family-oriented, & typically mate for life. Often, family packs take in "lone" wolves & as one of their own. The message here is that even when you feel alone, there are people willing to accept you exactly as you are. Chosen family is still family!

However, in order to find your soul family, you need to remain open to asking for help & accepting support & love when offered to you. Moments of solitude are necessary, but a pack offers warmth & protection that you need & DESERVE. Don't be afraid to howl & find your people.

Despite movie & fairy tale tropes, wolves typically avoid aggression (unless hunting for food of course). However, they will defend their pack when in danger. Cooperation & social structure help the pack flourish, & there is much to learn from this way of existence.

Wolves also understand the power of raising their voices together. From NYWolf.org : "Each wolf has a unique howl & when every member of the pack joins in, the individual howls & harmonies give the listener the impression the pack is larger than it actually is."

If you dream about wolf, you may need to reconnect with the wonder & awe of nature to be reminded of your place in the universe. If you feel stifled within a social group or relationship, look to wolf as an example that individuality within the pack is both possible & necessary.
